Joburg Super Kings entered the SA20 2027 auction with the biggest remaining purse and emerged as the most aggressive franchise. They engaged in three bidding wars with MI Cape Town. After missing out on Wiaan Mulder, JSK signed Faf du Plessis for R2.7 million and 18-year-old prospect Jason Rowles for R2.9 million. According to Hindustan Times, these amounts convert to $162,286 and $174,248 USD respectively.

Squad Additions

Faf du Plessis returns to the JSK set-up for a fifth successive season. Jason Rowles becomes the second U-23 player in the squad after sparking a major contest between JSK and MI Cape Town. JSK then added bowling all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem for R375,000. In the final round, they filled their remaining spots by picking veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Zimbabwean speedster Blessing Muzarabani, and USA wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous at their base prices. Immediately after the auction, Jamie Overton joined the team as their Wildcard player.

Context

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith noted that the league focuses on talent and ability rather than age, allowing young prospects to play alongside experienced veterans. Faf du Plessis enters this season following strong recent form, including 449 runs in the ETPL 2026 tournament.
