Venezuela has given official approval for Elon Musk's satellite internet service, Starlink, to operate in the country. Interim President Delcy Rodriguez cleared the service as part of a new agreement between the government and the US company, according to a government statement released on Friday.
Operations
Starlink is operated by SpaceX and uses a network of satellites in low Earth orbit to deliver internet access. The company serves individual consumers, businesses, aviation and maritime operators, and government customers. While the recent announcement confirms the entry into the Venezuelan market, the government statement did not share details about the launch timeline, service prices, or the exact scope of operations.
Context
Satellite internet providers use low-Earth-orbit networks to bring web access to areas where traditional cable or mobile towers cannot reach easily. Expanding into new countries helps companies like Starlink grow their user base and reach more customers around the world.
