Tata Consultancy Services has stopped quarterly variable pay for its senior employees after failing to meet internal performance targets. According to a report by Reuters citing an internal memo, this is the first time in at least two years that part of the staff has been denied a variable bonus entirely. Chief Human Resources Officer Sudeep Kunnumal stated in the memo that the decision was deliberate because company performance fell short of internal goals this quarter. The suspension applies specifically to employees in the C3A grade and above. These senior-level staff members usually have seven to ten years of experience or hold senior management roles. Meanwhile, junior-level workers will receive one hundred percent of their entitled payment. Employees noted that the firm typically distributes fifty to one hundred percent in variable pay.

Performance Context

The move comes as the country's largest IT services firm recorded its slowest September-quarter revenue growth in three years. This reflects ongoing pressure on traditional tech service demand, even though revenue tied to artificial intelligence grew by roughly twenty percent. In separate financial updates, the company also announced a twelve rupee interim dividend per share with a record date of October 14, following earlier dividends distributed in January, May, and July.

Context

Variable pay is a common component of corporate compensation packages in the technology sector, tied directly to both individual performance and overall company results. When large firms face slower revenue growth, adjustments to bonuses and allowances are often used to manage costs while protecting junior staff compensation. Major global brokerages like Nomura, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Nuwaama have all recently issued target prices and ratings for the company's shares following its financial disclosures.
