Funding and Allocation
Mani C. Kappan MLA has allocated ninety lakh rupees from his asset development fund to purchase new KSRTC buses for the Pala depot. He handed over the written letter regarding this decision to the district collector. The total MLA asset development fund is five crore rupees per year. This step follows a government instruction and a KSRTC request for MLAs to provide funds to buy a maximum of three buses from their development funds. The UDF government sought cooperation from MLAs to carry forward public welfare programs in the KSRTC. The government aims to use these new buses on routes that the left government had stopped.
Pala Depot Situation
Pala depot has stopped some of its bus services because it did not have enough buses and because those routes were not profitable. Mani C. Kappan stated that the previous government showed complete neglect toward the Pala depot, even though it had maintained the second position in revenue across the district for years. He aims to bring back the depot's lost glory and start useful bus routes again by funding these new buses. He also plans to hold discussions with Minister C.P. John and call meetings of officials to take steps for the smooth functioning of the depot and to fix the neglect shown by the prior government.
Context
MLA asset development funds are special financial allocations given to elected representatives to build and improve public infrastructure and facilities in their local areas. Local transport depots like the one in Pala play a major role in daily public commuting, and getting new vehicles often helps restore canceled rural routes.
