The Volvo ES90 sedan is launching in India, marking a return for Volvo sedans in the country after the S90 was discontinued in 2024. It will serve as the brand's flagship electric vehicle alongside the new EX90 SUV and will arrive as a fully built import with an expected price between Rs 1 crore and Rs 1.20 crore.
Design and Performance
The ES90 shares its 800-volt SPA2 architecture with the EX90 and achieves a drag coefficient of 0.25, making it the most aerodynamic production car Volvo has ever built. It features a closed-off body-coloured grille, Thor's hammer LED daytime running lights, and wheel sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches. While global models offer battery options including a 106kWh pack with all-wheel drive, Volvo has not yet confirmed the exact powertrain choices for the Indian market.
Interior Features
Inside, the cabin includes a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen, a 9-inch digital driver display, a 13.2-inch head-up display, and a 14-speaker Bose sound system that can be upgraded to 25 Bowers & Wilkins speakers. Comfort features consist of four-zone climate control, a digital key, a powered tailgate, and heated, ventilated front seats with massage functions, along with power-reclining rear seats.
Context
When it arrives in the country, the ES90 will compete directly against luxury electric cars like the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan priced at Rs 1.30 crore and the BMW i7 priced at Rs 1.95 crore. This launch reflects the broader luxury auto industry trend of introducing dedicated electric flagship models to capture the growing high-end EV demand in India.
