Sahibzada Farhan marked his first match as Pakistan's T20I captain by hitting 89 runs off 53 balls to secure a four-wicket win against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first, putting up a total of 182 for 8 in their twenty overs. Opening batsman Lahiru Udara carried the innings for Sri Lanka with a brilliant 91 runs from 55 balls, but he received very little help from the other end. Pakistan chased down the target easily, finishing at 187 for 6 in response.
Batting Highlights
Pakistan wasted no time in the run chase after a strong start from Fakhar Zaman. Maaz Sadaqat joined his captain at the crease and scored a quick fifty from just 28 balls, forming a massive 92-run partnership with Farhan that broke the back of the bowling attack. Sri Lanka had earlier struggled badly during their powerplay overs, crawling to a slow start while losing two early wickets and failing to take advantage of the fielding restrictions. Pakistan also bowled 29 extras, but tidy spells kept the visitors under control.
Bowling Performance
On the bowling side, debutant Mohammad Imran stood out for Pakistan by taking 2 for 21 in his overs, using clever sideways movement to trouble the batters. Naseem Shah also claimed three wickets while conceding 36 runs. For Sri Lanka, E Malinga picked up two wickets for 33 runs, but the rest of the bowling lineup failed to stop the rampant Pakistan top order.
Context
Bilateral cricket series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka often produce exciting matches, though touring teams frequently face tough conditions in Rawalpindi. Sri Lanka had previously won 3-0 on their last bilateral T20I trip to Pakistan, making this opening win a strong statement for the newly captained home side.
