A test mule of the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG has been spotted on public roads just days before its official debut on October 15, 2026. This comes six months after initial reports about the car's development first surfaced. When it launches, it will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon, which are currently the only other CNG options in this vehicle segment.
Design Details
The spotted test mule was almost entirely without any cover, though the spy images mostly show the rear section of the vehicle. It shares several exterior design elements with the standard petrol and diesel versions, including the main 'XUV 3XO' branding, roof rails, a rear spoiler, connected tail-lamps, and a chunky black bumper that features a silver skid plate and static reflectors. The only clear visual giveaway that sets this variant apart is a 'CNG' sticker placed on the rear windscreen.
Context
Automakers often test new fuel variants on public roads in plain sight just weeks or days before their official market launch to complete final road trials. Adding a factory-fitted CNG option allows car makers to offer buyers a lower running cost compared to traditional petrol and diesel engines. This particular model enters a competitive compact SUV space where fuel choice plays a major role for everyday Indian car buyers.
