GEMS Education has joined hands with Mumbai-based school operator Cresmonde Schools in a strategic collaboration that covers existing schools in Vikhroli and Kalyan, along with two upcoming campuses in Malwani and Kalyan. This partnership marks the first time GEMS Education has teamed up with a local school operator in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Operations

Cresmonde Schools bring a Finnish curriculum partnership to the table with a focus on giving students international exposure. Under the new tie-up, GEMS Education will use its global brand, academic knowledge, and operational experience to improve teaching and learning at these four schools to match international levels. Francis Joseph, who serves as the India CEO of GEMS Education, stated that the company sees huge potential in local partnerships in India to bring together local roots and global connections. Anita Dewoolkar, Founder Trustee of Cresmonde Schools, noted that the partnership combines their local commitment with a global legacy spanning over 65 years.

Background

GEMS Education was started in Dubai in 1959 by two Indian teachers and has since grown into one of the oldest and largest private K-12 school providers in the world. The network currently teaches over 200,000 students from more than 176 nationalities globally, supported by a staff of over 20,000 employees. Over the past five years, students from GEMS have gained admission to more than 2,000 universities across 71 countries, which includes all eight Ivy League universities in the United States and all 24 Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom.

Context

Private school operators in India are increasingly looking at global partnerships to offer diverse curriculum choices and modern teaching methods to local students. Such collaborations aim to bridge the gap between regional schooling and international academic standards. As the school network expands across the country, similar joint efforts could shape how private education operates in urban regions.
