India Poised to Become Global Subsea Cable Hub, US and India Strengthen Cooperation

India's potential to emerge as a major global hub for subsea digital infrastructure has been highlighted by the US Embassy in India. The move is part of the US-India TRUST initiative, which aims to strengthen the security, resilience and diversification of global undersea cable networks. An 'Undersea Cables Workshop' was held in September, bringing together government and industry experts to protect critical communication infrastructure. The US Embassy said undersea cables are the backbone of global digital connectivity, powering economies, cloud services and the AI revolution. The partnership includes an 'Undersea Cables Workshop' and expands the TRUST initiative into subsea connectivity. India's growing digital economy and strategic location connecting major global markets could position it as a key global subsea cable hub. The cooperation is being pursued as both countries seek to build more resilient digital infrastructure and diversify technology and supply-chain networks. The US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has stated that the TRUST initiative is deepening cooperation in areas including AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, energy and space. The US-India partnership aims to secure and diversify global undersea cable networks, making India a key player in the global digital infrastructure landscape.
