Telangana plans to ask the central government for special financial help to deal with possible trouble from El Nino. A state group headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will travel to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and other union ministers.

Crop and Power Concerns

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy shared this plan at a public event in Kusumanchi after giving out financial aid checks. The state team will ask for money support and more work days under the VB-G RAM G program. Because El Nino weather patterns are expected to get stronger, the minister advised farmers not to plant a second crop. Instead, officials want to protect the crops that are already growing. The state also faces rising power costs, with electricity prices jumping from seven or eight rupees to fifteen rupees per unit due to country-wide shortages. Officials must prepare early for low groundwater levels to stop drinking water shortages in the months ahead.

Context

El Nino is a climate pattern that warms surface waters in the Pacific Ocean and often brings dry weather and less rainfall to parts of South Asia. Governments frequently respond to these weather threats by asking central authorities for financial aid and job support schemes to protect farmers and rural workers.
