CPI(M) State secretariat member M.B. Rajesh has alleged that the First Information Report against Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan is part of a match-fixing arrangement between the Enforcement Directorate and Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. He described the action as political persecution and questioned what the case contained beyond allegations previously raised in court by MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan.
Details and Allegations
Mr. Rajesh pointed out that three courts had already rejected the case and accused the ED of treating its claims as unquestionable. He stated that the agency was not above the courts and had lost its credibility. According to him, the ED misused statements obtained through threats and intimidated people while recording them. He also alleged that the State government colluded with the central agency by providing necessary facilities and pointed to collusion in the High Court.
Party Response
The CPI(M) leader stated that his party would challenge any attempt to target Mr. Vijayan and the Left through both legal and political means. He warned individuals celebrating the agency's action that they might face similar actions later. He also criticized Mr. Satheesan's stand, comparing it to cutting off the branch on which one sits.
Context
Political disputes involving central investigative agencies and state opposition parties are a frequent feature of Indian politics. Leaders often accuse each other of using agencies like the ED for political leverage, leading to ongoing legal and public debates over the fairness of such investigations.
