Two top court bar associations have strongly condemned a social media post by the Congress unit of Keralam that demanded the resignation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

The Resolution

The Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association passed resolutions on Monday denouncing the deleted X post by the handle Congress Kerala. The post addressed the CJI as Dear Surya Kant and stated that he should resign if law and order is not his domain. Both bodies stated that such public statements undermine public confidence in the judiciary, interfere with the administration of justice, and border on contempt. SCBA secretary Pragya Baghel urged people to maintain the dignity of the court and use proper legal channels to seek redressal, while SCAORA secretary Yugandhara Pawar Jha stressed that the judicial institution must function without pressure.

Context

The controversy arose after news agency PTI quoted the Chief Justice stating that an ongoing protest in Delhi was a matter of law and order and not his domain. Bar associations routinely step in to defend judicial heads and institutional autonomy when public figures target judges over official remarks or pending matters.
