Delhi police have filed two FIRs against opposition leaders for staging an unauthorised march to the Supreme Court on Monday. The FIRs were lodged at Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations in Delhi. Police said no permission had been obtained for the march, which was part of the "March for Democracy" organised by the INDIA bloc. On October 12, a mini‑truck was used to breach police barricades on Barakhamba Road, allowing several leaders to reach the Supreme Court area. The protest aimed to file a petition challenging Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter deletions and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Leaders present included Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition; Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge; Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav; and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee. They marched alongside activists and supporters demanding action against what they called "vote chori". Police statements emphasized that the breach violated the law and that the FIRs cover charges of unlawful assembly and damage to public property. The incident adds to growing tensions between the opposition bloc and the election commission ahead of upcoming elections. ## Context Delhi’s election laws require prior permission for public processions, and breaking that rule can lead to criminal complaints. The Special Intensive Revision is a periodic exercise to update voter lists, often contested by political parties.
