UPDATE - follow-up to Several hurt, one in 'cardiac arrest' in South Korea market stabbing: One person remains in cardiac arrest after a stabbing at an Incheon supermarket on Tuesday, while about seven others were injured, officials said. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters confirmed the victim's condition and the number of injured. Police arrested a male suspect at the scene. Emergency services arrived within minutes and secured the area. The supermarket was temporarily closed for investigation. Witnesses reported hearing loud noises before the attack. Hospital staff are treating the injured; the cardiac‑arrest patient was taken to a nearby hospital for advanced care, and the others suffered cuts and bruises. South Korea, which had a homicide rate of 1.3 per 100,000 in 2021, is generally considered safe, far below the global average of roughly six per 100,000. Nonetheless, the nation has experienced several stabbing attacks in recent years. In May 2025 a man attacked three police officers, and in September 2025 three people were killed in a stabbing at a Seoul pizza restaurant. The latest attack adds to that pattern of violent incidents. Authorities are investigating the motive and the suspect remains in custody.
