IIT Kharagpur launches free AI tutor and GATE prep tools for students

IIT Kharagpur has launched an AI-powered learning assistant and a free online preparation platform for GATE and IIT-JAM aspirants. Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar launched both initiatives at the institute's Research Park in Rajarhat, Kolkata, during its Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

AI Learning Tool

The first initiative, named the NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor, is integrated with the National Digital Library of India and offers free personalized academic help. Registered users can use its 'Scan & Ask' feature to submit problems in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The tool uses hints and contextual explanations to help students solve problems on their own rather than just giving direct answers.

Exam Prep Platform

The second tool is a free online preparation platform for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and the Joint Admission Test for Masters. It aims to offer structured study resources for students from rural areas and poor families, reducing their need for expensive coaching.

Context

The National Digital Library of India is sponsored by the Union Ministry of Education and hosts more than 130 million learning resources for over one crore learners. IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty stated that these digital tools help extend the institute's academic resources beyond its physical campus, supporting the goals of the National Education Policy 2020.
