Flight operations at Nuremberg's Albrecht Dürer Airport were halted on Tuesday after officials declared an aviation emergency. The airport posted on its website that all take‑offs and landings were suspended until further notice. A later update confirmed that Corendon Airlines flight XR456, which had departed from Corfu, touched down safely in Nuremberg. German police shared on X that they had been warned of an unclear air incident and that the aircraft arrived without problem. They added that inspections on the ground found no safety risk and that an inquiry is under way. Pilots reported seeing a possible drone near the runway during three separate take‑offs and landings between 02:00 and 04:00 local time. The sightings prompted air‑traffic control, airport officials and border police to launch a joint security sweep. A police helicopter was deployed, but the suspected object could not be confirmed. The joint operation also involved on‑site checks that concluded the runway remained clear. Police spokesperson Michael Petzold said the border police inspectorate will continue probing the episode. Albrecht Dürer Airport mainly serves holiday routes to southern Europe and Turkey and handled about 4.5 million passengers in 2025, according to its own figures. ## Context Unidentified objects such as drones are taken seriously at European airports because they can endanger aircraft during critical phases of flight. German authorities therefore act quickly to secure the airfield and investigate any reports.
