Reported by one source so far
Police found photographs of minor girls, including some survivors, during searches at the Chennai residence of 'Gem Granite' owner R Veeramani.
Investigation Details
The seized material supports allegations that the businessman exploited and sexually abused poor girl children. Victims who filed complaints identified Veeramani as the person who abused them. Investigators learned that hidden cameras used to record videos involving Veeramani and the victims were bought online. Mahendra Simhan, the husband of another accused named Shanti, bought the cameras on different occasions on a popular merchandise platform. Forensic experts checked the genuineness of the videos, including an older video that required analysis. The Special Investigation Team formed for this case also questioned more police officers, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Case Status
Authorities have booked six cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and one case for abetment to suicide against the main accused. The 2004 abetment to suicide case also involved a minor girl, but POCSO provisions could not be applied because the law was not in force at that time.
Context
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act is a special Indian law enacted to protect minors from sexual assault, harassment, and pornography. Cases under this law are handled by specialized teams and fast-track courts to ensure strict action and child safety.
