Seven young men from Kozhinjampara have been arrested for killing a man near the Moolathara dam at Chittur in Palakkad district. The victim's body turned up near the dam on Sunday. A post-mortem exam at Government Medical College in Thrissur showed he suffered many internal injuries and bleeding, proving he died from an assault.

Attack Details

Investigators state the arrested youths allegedly beat the man while drunk. The dead man has not been identified yet, but he is believed to be from Tamil Nadu. He had been staying near the Moolathara regulator area for about a week. Local residents had complained that he harassed women, and he was also suspected to have mental health issues.

Investigation Status

Police are looking into those complaints and checking security camera footage to find other people who took part in the attack. The case brings back painful memories of past mob violence in Palakkad, including the 2018 killing of a tribal man named Madhu in Attappady and the December 2025 lynching of migrant worker Ram Narayan Baghel near Walayar.

Context

Mob violence and people taking the law into their own hands remain serious concerns across society. Incidents like this often highlight how vulnerable people face extreme danger when groups resort to vigilante justice instead of letting the legal system handle complaints.
