Indian equity benchmarks closed lower on Wednesday, 14 October, as rising oil prices and sustained foreign investor outflows dampened market sentiment. The Nifty 50 fell 0.44% to close at 22,622.70, while the Sensex declined 0.34% to 72,781.89.

Market Movement

Eight of the 16 major sectors ended in the red, and small-cap and mid-cap indices fell 0.3% and 0.1% respectively. This drop followed a strong rebound on Tuesday when both indices gained around 1.6% each, led by IT stocks after HCLTech reported better-than-expected quarterly profit. Wednesday's session marked the fifth consecutive day of alternating bull and bear patterns in the market. The Nifty 50 dropped 99 points, forming a small negative candle on the daily chart that signals consolidation after Tuesday's sharp upmove. The bearish pattern of lower tops and bottoms remains intact.

Stock Recommendations

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, recommended buying Sagility at 45.60 rupees, with a target price of 49.50 rupees and a stop-loss at 43.50 rupees. He also recommended buying Rain Industries at 236 rupees, with a target of 255 rupees and a stop-loss at 223 rupees. Both trades carry a timeframe of two to three weeks.

Context

Stock markets frequently fluctuate based on global factors like crude oil prices and foreign institutional investor activity. Technical analysts study price charts, volume trends, and indicators like the Relative Strength Index to identify potential short-term trading opportunities. Investors often use stop-loss orders to limit potential losses on their trades.
