BJP Mahila Morcha delegation met National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on Oct 14, 2026, demanding action in the sexual‑harassment case against Congress MP and former JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. The group was headed by BJP national vice‑president and Mahila Morcha in‑charge Daggubati Purandeswari and Mahila Morcha national president Roop Kumari Chaudhary. Their memorandum cited complaints lodged by 11 female students and the university’s decision to dismiss Akoijam after an internal inquiry. Chaudhary told the NCW that the students are still studying at the university and need protection, and she urged the commission to take cognizance. She also criticised the Congress for remaining silent and said the party should have expelled Akoijam from its ranks under its rules. The delegation asked the NCW to forward the matter to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee for further scrutiny. ## Context The case highlights how political parties and parliamentary ethics bodies are pressured to act when allegations of misconduct involve sitting MPs. It also shows the role of the NCW in addressing complaints from students against powerful figures.
