Nairobi has won the bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, beating London. The decision was confirmed at a World Athletics council meeting in Budapest. This will be the first time an African city hosts the event. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said Nairobi presented a compelling and emotional bid. Coe also stated that they had four outstanding bids for 2029 and 2031, making it a tough choice for the council. Munich will host the 2031 event. Previously, the London Stadium hosted the World Athletics Championships in 2017.
