This decision marks the first time an African city will host the event. The choice was confirmed at a World Athletics council meeting in Budapest. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said Nairobi had presented a compelling and emotional bid. Meanwhile, the 2031 event will be held in Munich, and the London Stadium previously hosted the championships in 2017. Coe also stated that they had four outstanding bids for 2029 and 2031, making it a tough choice for the council. Munich will host the 2031 event. Previously, the London Stadium hosted the World Athletics Championships in 2017.
