BMW India expects long-wheelbase vehicles to reach roughly sixty percent of its total sales by the end of 2026. This projection follows a rise to fifty-two percent during the first half of the year. The company recorded a sales growth of fourteen percent in 2025 and a fifteen percent year-on-year increase in the first half of 2026, even though the wider auto market stayed flat or dropped slightly.

Strategy And EVs

Hardeep Singh Brar, president and CEO of BMW Group India, stated that long-wheelbase layouts and electrification are the two main pillars of the company's current strategy. The current long-wheelbase lineup includes the 3 Series LWB, 5 Series LWB, X1 LWB, i5 LWB, and iX1 LWB. Electric vehicles made up twenty-one percent of BMW volumes in 2025 and twenty-six percent in the first half of 2026. Brar expects this share to pass thirty percent in the second half of the year.

Diesel Shift

BMW has also noticed buyers shifting from diesel cars to electric options. Brar pointed out that concerns over vehicle life and resale value are driving down diesel demand, especially in places like Delhi where diesel vehicles have a ten-year registration limit. Despite this shift, BMW will keep offering diesel engines where demand stays strong, particularly for models like the X5 and X7.
