Engineering and management graduates received a broad overview of career options at a seminar organised by The Hindu Future India Club and Paari School of Business, SRM University, on Wednesday at Tirumala Engineering College in Narsaraopet, Palnadu district. Dr. Mitrabarun Ghosh, assistant professor at the Paari School of Business, addressed final‑year B.Tech students in a session titled “Career Directions: Engineering & Management.” He noted that both streams offer strong prospects and that students should pick a path that matches their interests and long‑term goals. He listed traditional engineering roles in technology, research, design and innovation, and management roles in leadership, strategy, marketing, finance and operations. He highlighted that combining an engineering degree with an MBA can open product‑management, consulting and senior leadership positions. Specific sectors mentioned included information technology, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductors, manufacturing and global capability centres. Government avenues such as GATE, UPSC Engineering Services, ISRO, DRDO, Indian Railways and public‑sector undertakings were also cited. Emerging fields he pointed to were electric vehicles, green energy, space technology, defence startups and chip design, while alternative options covered technical writing, patent analysis, research, public policy and entrepreneurship. Dr. Ghosh advised students to consider higher‑education exams like GATE, CAT, GRE and GMAT, and to evaluate colleges on rankings, accreditation, placement records, faculty quality, industry links and return on investment. He urged them to choose a primary career track, keep a backup, prepare strategically for competitive exams and boost their profiles with projects, internships and certifications.
Context
The seminar reflects a growing focus in Indian higher‑education institutions on aligning engineering and management curricula with fast‑changing industry demands and government recruitment pathways.
