ICICI Lombard General Insurance earned a net profit of 946 crore rupees in the second quarter of the 2023 financial year. This marks a rise of 15.5 percent compared to the same period earlier. Strong business in both the motor and commercial sectors helped drive this financial growth. The insurer also collected 6,792 crore rupees in gross premium income, which is a 3 percent increase from the previous year. Along with these financial results, the company announced a dividend of 7 rupees per share for the first half of the financial year.
Context
Insurance companies earn their money mainly by collecting payments from customers called premiums and by investing that money safely. When business sectors like motor vehicles and commercial operations do well, insurers often see higher demand for their policies. Companies routinely share a portion of their earnings with shareholders as dividends during the financial year.
