Market Rebound

The Indian stock market saw strong buying during morning trade on Thursday, 15 October, as key benchmark indices rebounded following the previous day's decline. The Sensex jumped nearly 900 points, or 1.20 percent, to reach an intraday high of 73,658. At the same time, the Nifty 50 climbed nearly 250 points, or 1.10 percent, touching a day high of 22,870.

Sector Performance

According to Economic Times, strong performances by IT and banking stocks helped drive the positive mood on Dalal Street. However, the wider market did not share the same gains as the mid- and small-cap segments remained weak. The BSE 150 Midcap index and the BSE 250 Smallcap index both dropped by 0.50 percent during the morning session.

Market Volatility

Market volatility picked up as the India VIX rose by more than 1 percent, showing sudden shifts in trading sentiment. Meanwhile, oil prices dropped as investors reacted to geopolitical tensions and the easing of sanctions on shipping vessels.

Context

Stock market indices like the Sensex and Nifty track the overall health and daily performance of top companies listed on Indian bourses. Large-cap stocks often move differently from smaller companies based on institutional buying and broader economic shifts.
