Visakhapatnam Port Authority recorded 50,007,081 tonnes of cargo in just 196 days of FY 2026‑27, beating its previous record by 17 days. The same 50‑million‑tonne mark took 213 days in FY 2025‑26 (reached on Oct 30 2025) and 224 days in FY 2024‑25 (reached on Nov 10 2024). The port crossed 10 MMT in 41 days on May 11 2026, reached 25 MMT on July 3 2026 and handled 45 MMT by Oct 7 2026, the 180‑day point. June 2026 saw the highest‑ever monthly crude oil discharge of 2.15 MMT, following 1.85 MMT of liquid cargo in May. On Sep 1 2026 the Belgian‑flagged crude carrier ATREBATES, 339.5 m long, berthed at the single‑point‑mooring berth, the largest vessel handled there so far. Chairperson J.S. Bindra and Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji Korati praised the traffic department and operations team for the achievement. They said the port is confident of reaching the FY 2026‑27 target of 100 MMT. The growth reflects steady handling of large vessels and bulk liquid cargo, key to the port’s expansion plan.

Context

Visakhapatnam Port aims to double its cargo throughput to 100 MMT by the end of FY 2026‑27, using its deep‑water facilities and SPM berth to attract bigger crude carriers.
