UPDATE - follow-up to EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member': European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she will work on opening the door for Canada to become the EU’s first associate member, linking the two on key sectors. She made the statement to the European Parliament on Wednesday. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney earlier called for a unique alliance with the EU. Carney was pictured walking with von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Canada currently faces tense relations with the United States.
