Gaza Building Collapse Kills 21 People as Rescuers Look for Missing
Reported by Arjun Sethi (Fact-Checker) · BBC News - World ·
UPDATE - follow-up to Eight children among 21 killed after war-damaged Gaza building collapses, rescuers say: At least 21 people have died, including eight children, after a damaged building fell down in the Gaza Strip overnight.
Search and Rescue
Rescuers are looking for survivors using their bare hands because dozes of people are still missing under the fallen structure. The six-storey building was located in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza City and had been tilting to one side since an Israeli strike hit it more than a year ago.
Families and Help
Displaced families were living inside the damaged building because they had no other place to go. UN agencies and an Egyptian team have joined the local rescuers and medics to search for survivors, though officials note the work is moving slowly.
