Joshua Foster received a fine of 3,000 euros, equal to 2,500 pounds, at Paphos District Court after admitting to causing his two-year-old son's death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. The 37-year-old auditor from Essex lost control of the boy while placing him on a fourth-floor windowsill to show him a waterpark view at the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas. The toddler fell nearly 40 feet from the window on July 12, which was the first day of the family's holiday.

Court Details

Lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou told the court that Foster was in a good mood and playing with his son near an elevator at around 18:00 before the incident unfolded. Police received reports at about 18:40, and the boy was taken to Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While Foster had alcohol in his system, it did not form a significant part of the case and his lawyer stated there was no testimony that he was drunk. Foster was held in custody for eight days after the incident.

Statements And Reactions

Speaking to reporters after the Friday morning sentencing, Foster said he was looking forward to going home to his wife and daughter. Alexandrou described his client as an incredible father and an exemplary family man whose life changed forever, adding that the family needed time to grieve properly.

Context

Accidental falls from hotel balconies and windows remain a tragic risk for young children during family holidays abroad, prompting strict safety warnings from travel authorities about window latches and balcony access. Paphos District Court handles local legal proceedings in the western district of Cyprus where major tourism hubs are located. Legal cases involving foreign nationals in Cyprus follow national statutory procedures and local court rules.
