A 20‑year‑old B.Tech student died after allegedly leaping from the sixth floor of the administrative block of a private university near Nagandenahalli in Bengaluru Rural district on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as S. Varshini, a 20‑year‑old third‑year B.Tech student originally from Andhra Pradesh. Police said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on Thursday. A senior police officer told The Hindu that no suicide note was found, but investigators have collected Varshini’s books and other study material to search for possible clues. In a text message sent shortly before the fall, Varshini wrote to her parents, “I love you, Dad. I love you, Mom.” The police have registered a case against the officer in charge of the block under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with causing death by negligence. The officer said it is not yet clear how the student was able to enter the administrative building. The police have secured her textbooks, notebooks and laptop as part of the evidence gathering process. The Hindu published the story on October 16, 2026 at 11:36 p.m. IST.
