Bad weather and storms cost nearly five hours on the opening day of the DP World India Championship, forcing the tournament to play catch-up on Friday at the Delhi Golf Club. Angel Hidalgo, Joost Luiten and Adrian Meronk share the clubhouse lead at the top of a tight leaderboard.
Leading Players
Om Prakash Chouhan is the best-placed Indian golfer at tied 17th when play was stopped. Chouhan, along with Anirban Lahiri and Saptak Talwar who are tied 46th, remains in the running to make the cut. Luiten played the most among the leaders by getting through 34 holes for rounds of 68 and 68 to reach eight under. Meronk and Hidalgo both played 31 holes, with Hidalgo also matching eight under through rounds of 68 and 68. Meronk held the solo lead at one point before dropping his only shot of the week so far on the ninth hole.
Round Two Resume
The second round will restart on Saturday, and the cut line is expected to be decided by Saturday afternoon. More than half of the players in the field still need to finish their second round, while 12 players have not even teed off yet. Belgium player Thomas Detry birdied three of his first six holes in the second round to move right up with the leaders, sitting just one shot behind them alongside English pair Todd Clements and Eddie Pepperell.
Context
Outdoor sports tournaments like golf frequently face schedule disruptions when severe weather hits the venue. Players often have to tackle multiple rounds on a single day to make up for lost time once the weather clears up.
