Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Friday evening due to a chest infection. Hospital officials report that the 98-year-old leader is currently in stable condition and undergoing treatment in the pulmonary department under observation by a team of doctors.
Medical History
Advani was brought to the hospital at around 7:30 pm. This follows several other health visits, including a stay at the same hospital in May for age-related issues and multiple hospitalisations throughout 2024. In December of that year, he spent time in the intensive care unit for medical management before being discharged on December 25.
Political Legacy
Born in Karachi in 1927, Advani moved to India during the Partition in 1947 and became a central figure in the rise of the BJP, serving three terms as party president. He served as Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He also received India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in March 2024.
Context
Chest infections are common among elderly individuals and require careful medical monitoring, especially for those of advanced age. Healthcare facilities in New Delhi routinely manage such age-related conditions for senior public figures to ensure safe and stable recovery.
