Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital and the Dr. Agarwals Institute of Optometry held an eye health awareness campaign in Chennai on Wednesday, just before World Sight Day. Optometry students at the institute created special simulation glasses that show what life looks like with different vision issues. Over 1,400 people wore these glasses across four spots to see how everyday sight changes due to conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration from age, diabetes-related eye damage, and regular focusing errors. Karpagam, the dean of the institute, stressed the need for regular eye checkups and spoke about silent eye diseases. Spotting these problems early helps stop preventable blindness that can otherwise hurt a person's daily independence, work, and overall life quality if left unchecked.
Context
Many common eye problems develop slowly without early pain, making regular medical exams vital for catching them on time. Public awareness campaigns often use hands-on tools like simulation lenses to help people understand conditions they might otherwise ignore until permanent damage occurs.
