India Post now serves almost 20 lakh Cheyutha pension beneficiaries each month across Telangana, underscoring a major boost in its reach. Chief Postmaster General D.S.V.R. Murthy announced the rollout during a World Post Day press conference on October 9, 2026, and outlined the theme for National Postal Week – “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities.”
Operations
The Telangana Circle runs through 36 Head Post Offices, 759 Sub Post Offices and 5,424 Branch Post Offices. Staffing includes 6,514 departmental employees and 10,623 Gramin Dak Sevaks. Across 17 Rozgar Mela phases, the Department issued 1.86 lakh appointment and engagement orders nationwide, with 1,272 new appointments in the state.
Digital Initiatives
The circle has deployed the indigenous APT 2.0 platform and DIGIPIN, a geo‑coded digital address system created with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC‑ISRO. The Door Step Service app now offers real‑time tracking, while 24‑hour and 48‑hour Speed Post services launched in Hyderabad have already handled over 1.33 lakh articles.
Financial Inclusion
Fourteen Passport Seva Kendras processed more than 1.66 lakh passport transactions in 2025‑26, and 263 Aadhaar centres logged 4.75 lakh transactions. Telangana maintains 1.07 crore Post Office Savings Bank accounts and aims to bring 25 % of the rural population under financial inclusion by 2026‑27. The circle sold 71,233 Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance policies, generating revenue of ₹596.71 crore during 2025‑26.
Context
India Post’s push aligns with the country’s broader drive to digitise services and extend banking to remote areas, using technology partners like IIT Hyderabad and ISRO to reach underserved citizens.
ExplainerWhy this matters
What Happened
India Post’s Telangana Circle announced a suite of new digital tools, expanded service points and a push for greater financial inclusion during a World Post Day event on October 9, 2026.
Why It Matters
The digital address system (DIGIPIN) and real‑time tracking apps aim to cut delivery delays and bring essential services to rural households that often lack reliable addresses. By increasing pension outreach, passport and Aadhaar processing, and savings bank accounts, the postal network becomes a critical financial hub, supporting the government’s goal of banking the unbanked and reducing cash‑based transactions.
What Happens Next
The circle will continue rolling out APT 2.0 and DIGIPIN across remaining post offices, monitor the uptake of Speed Post services, and work toward the 25 % rural financial‑inclusion target for 2026‑27. Success will be measured by growth in account openings, pension disbursements and the volume of insured policies, while any bottlenecks in digital adoption may prompt further training for Gramin Dak Sevaks.
