Delhi Police have filed at least ten FIRs linked to alleged attacks on demonstrators urging Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to step down. The first complaint was lodged at Connaught Place police station on Oct 13 after videos on social media showed a clash. One suspect identified as Gaurav was taken into custody, while police continue to track other participants. CCTV recordings from the area are being reviewed to pinpoint those involved and to map the sequence of events. A separate case arose from a video that went viral showing people assaulting protestors, including a minor girl. Four individuals were arrested and the matter was recorded at Kamla Market police station on Oct 11 under Sections 115(2), 126(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities said legal steps have been started and further hearings are pending. Police also opened investigations for incidents highlighted in videos posted on Oct 13 and Oct 14. Screenshots and social‑media links related to those events were attached to a dossier reviewed by the force. In each instance, officials said they are analysing CCTV footage to identify the accused, reconstruct what happened and assign proper roles. They added that any person found guilty will face criminal charges as prescribed by law.
Context
The protests target the chief election official amid claims of bias, and sustained public, activist and media pressure prompted the police to act against alleged aggressors.
