Jio Platforms plans to raise about $3.2 billion through an initial public offering opening on October 21. Led by Akash Ambani, the telecom and digital services business is targeting a valuation near $108 billion at the upper end of its price band.

Issue Details And Valuation

The company has set a price band of ₹ 1,065 to ₹ 1,119 per share. The offering comprises a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares with no offer-for-sale component. The revised issue size is nearly 14% lower than the ₹ 35,000 crore indicated in draft papers, but it could still overtake Hyundai Motor India's ₹ 27,870 crore IPO in 2024 to become India's largest public issue by value. Overseas investors including Fidelity Management & Research, Allianz SE and Capital Group have shown interest, and Jio has reportedly drawn bids worth more than $20 billion. The grey market premium stood at ₹ 221 as of October 17, 2026, pointing to an estimated listing price of ₹ 1,340.

Changing Investor Base

India now counts over 130 million registered stock-market investors, with nearly 40% under the age of 30. This younger demographic is focusing closely on valuations, profitability and growth prospects rather than relying purely on the Reliance name. Founder Dhirubhai Ambani first raised ₹ 2.8 crore through an IPO in November 1977 that drew about 58,000 investors. Meanwhile, Reliance shares have dropped 23% this year amid a wider equities sell-off, heading toward their worst annual performance since 2011.

Context

Large initial public offerings by dominant market players often draw heavy retail and institutional interest while influencing overall sector valuations. Evaluating high-value tech and telecom firms requires looking closely at underlying financial metrics alongside market sentiment.
