Indian stock markets made a strong recovery this week, with the Nifty 50 rising 2.77% and the Sensex jumping 3.11%. Renewed buying in IT stocks, easing global bond yields, and steady domestic support helped lift investor sentiment following a recent market correction.

Market Performance

Both major benchmarks extended their gains for a second straight session on Friday. The Sensex climbed 413.66 points, or 0.56%, to close at 74,729.27, while the Nifty advanced 148.80 points, or 0.65%, to settle at 23,146.15. For the entire week, the Sensex added 2,256.94 points and the Nifty gained 625.7 points. Foreign portfolio outflows narrowed to ₹8,991 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought about ₹7,813 crore worth of shares.

Expert Outlook

Vinod Nair of Geojit Investments noted that market recovery depends on earnings growth spreading beyond IT to financials, consumption, and industrials. Ravi Singh of Master Capital Services pointed out that the Nifty found support near 22,200 and reclaimed its 21-day EMA around 22,900, with immediate resistance seen at the 55-day EMA near 23,360. Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking added that major central banks are moving toward easier monetary policies while growth remains subdued in Europe and China. Analysts suggest a selective, staggered buy-on-dips approach for investors due to ongoing global uncertainty and domestic inflation concerns.

Context

Stock market indices track the overall value and movement of a group of leading shares, serving as a general gauge of economic health and investor confidence. Domestic institutional investors and foreign portfolio investors play a major role in driving daily market liquidity and price trends in India. Technical indicators like moving averages help traders identify potential trend reversals, support levels, and resistance zones based on past price action.
