Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana handed housing title deeds to 19 transgender residents of Nellore’s 4th Division on Monday, October 12, 2026. The distribution followed a request made by the community in August when the minister toured the area and asked the Tahsildar, Joint Collector and Municipal Commissioner to act. Officials arranged the paperwork and gave the pattas to the 19 beneficiaries. When Narayana asked how many trans people live in the city, officials said about 140. He then pledged a personal contribution of ₹50,000 per person for house construction. He also said the beneficiaries would receive further aid of ₹2.5 lakh from both Central and State governments. Narayana recalled a government order on transgender pensions issued during his earlier tenure in Kurnool and said justice for the community is a top government priority. He also promised to issue pattas to all about 140 transgender residents of Nellore in the near future. The move is part of the state’s broader effort to improve housing for vulnerable groups.## Context Transgender welfare programs in India often combine state schemes with central grants, and securing land title deeds is a common step toward stable housing for marginalized groups.
