Bank Results And Leadership Exit
Multiple lenders announced their financial results for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year on Saturday, October 17. ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Yes Bank reported double-digit growth in net profit after tax, while HDFC Bank saw a single-digit profit rise. IDBI Bank posted a 39 percent drop in its net profit. Alongside its financial results, HDFC Bank announced that Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha has sought to step down from the bank's services effective December 31, 2026, after more than three decades with the institution.
Financial Performance Details
HDFC Bank reported a 4.7 percent annual jump in standalone net profit to 19,510 crore rupees for the July-September quarter, affected by a 67 percent decline in treasury trading gains down to 780 crore rupees. ICICI Bank saw a 20.1 percent profit increase to 14,843 crore rupees, supported by loan growth, lower bad loan provisions, and a 17.7 percent rise in net interest income to 25,339 crore rupees. Axis Bank posted a 38 percent profit jump to 7,003 crore rupees due to falling provisions and better asset quality, with provisions dropping from 3,547 crore rupees to 1,694 crore rupees. Yes Bank reported a 65 percent surge in consolidated net profit to 1,080 crore rupees alongside a 22.7 percent rise in net interest income. IDBI Bank saw its net profit fall 39 percent to 2,205 crore rupees due to a high-base effect from a one-time gain of 1,699 crore rupees recorded last year from selling its stake in National Securities Depository Limited, though its underlying profit surged by 14 percent and it maintained the lowest net non-performing assets.
Leadership Transition At HDFC
In a regulatory filing, HDFC Bank confirmed that its board and governance committee accepted Bharucha's request to step down, subject to Reserve Bank of India approval. Bharucha had been a contender for the managing director and CEO post, for which the Reserve Bank of India recommended Anup Bagchi. Banking sources noted that Bharucha was upset at being overlooked for the top job in favor of an executive from the ICICI group. The bank's board acknowledged Bharucha's role in building its credit architecture and also approved the reappointment of Lily Vadera as an independent director for three years starting November 26, 2026.
