Two real siblings died under mysterious circumstances in Pindaran village of Banda district after returning home from a Durga puja pandal.

The Incident

The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Mohit and 16-year-old Anupa, children of Jaikaran. The family had visited a local pandal on Friday night to view the goddess idols and took prasad before returning home to sleep. Around one in the morning, their mother Rajrani woke up when Anupa began groaning, vomiting, and foaming at the mouth. Mohit also fell ill at the same time.

Hospital Treatment

Uncle Nankai rushed both children to the Baberu Community Health Centre with help from other family members. Doctors declared Anupa dead first, while Mohit passed away during treatment at the hospital. The father, Jaikaran, who works as a labourer in Ahmedabad, left for home after receiving a phone call about the tragedy. Anupa studied in class nine at Swami Bhola Prasad Inter College, and Mohit studied in class six.

Police Investigation

Marka police station SHO Subedar Bind stated that the initial suspicion pointed towards a snakebite, and the mother reported seeing a snake leaving. However, the post-mortem examination did not find any snakebite marks on the bodies. Because the cause of death remained unclear, authorities preserved the viscera for forensic testing in Prayagraj. Meanwhile, villagers also suspected food poisoning, and official figures show that 29 people have died in the district so far from poisonous insect bites.

Context

Sudden deaths from suspected snakebites or food poisoning during changing weather seasons often prompt local authorities to order detailed forensic examinations. Police rely heavily on viscera reports when external injury marks are absent during initial autopsies. Such tragic incidents highlight the rural health challenges of getting immediate emergency treatment during late-night medical crises.
