UPDATE - follow-up to National Medical Commission asks medical colleges to set up patient safety committees: Medical colleges across the country must now send the full list of members and details of their patient safety committees to the National Patient Safety Secretariat at the Directorate-General of Health Services.

Committee Details

The National Medical Commission stated that the head of the institution, director, or medical superintendent will chair each committee, which must also include members from related medical fields and patient safety areas.

Safety Domains and Compliance

The safety framework includes 11 specific areas such as medication safety, surgical safety, blood safety, medical device safety, and infection control, alongside facility safety like biomedical waste management and fire safety.

Context

This system ensures that hospitals treat patient safety as an institutional duty instead of leaving it to individual doctors. Medical colleges are expected to follow these orders and report their setup details directly to the central secretariat.
