Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will be held accountable for alleged election fraud. The Congress leader, who serves as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, made the claim while joining the party’s “Goy Rakhon Yatra” in Margao, Goa, walking with workers and party officials. He said the whole nation is aware of the situation. Gandhi alleged that the CEC carries out the vote‑theft, Shah executes it and Modi plans it. He noted that more than 45 defamation suits are pending against him, yet no case has been filed for his accusations of vote theft, saying opponents fear a legal mess. Gandhi added that the Congress sees itself as a guardian of the Constitution and warned the three leaders that they cannot evade accountability. He also remarked that India once boasted a world‑class education system, but today pellet guns are used against student protesters. The remarks were reported by Pavneet Singh Chadha, The Indian Express’ Goa correspondent.
Context
The term “vote chori” is used by opposition parties to describe alleged manipulation of the voting process. The Chief Election Commissioner oversees the conduct of elections in India, making the accusation particularly serious.
