Thousands of worshippers gathered at Talacauvery on Saturday evening to witness the annual emergence of holy water from the river’s birthplace. The ritual, known as Theerthodbhava, took place at about 7:50 p.m. on the occasion of Tula Sankramana, drawing large crowds who prayed to the deity associated with the Cauvery. The temple courtyard filled with Vedic chants as devotees offered prayers, hoping for the goddess’s blessings. Kodagu district minister P. M. Narendra Swamy said he invoked the river’s protection for all life and prosperity throughout Karnataka, calling the Cauvery the state’s lifeline that supports farming, drinking water and livelihoods. He noted that hundreds of thousands of farmers depend on its flow for irrigation. A.S. Ponnanna, the chief minister’s political secretary who also serves as an MLA, prayed for ample rainfall and a good harvest to boost the region’s wealth. Present at the ceremony were MLA Mantar Gowda, Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar, Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani, Additional Deputy Commissioner Niranjan and other officials.
