Left Democratic Front convener T.P. Ramakrishnan has accused the Enforcement Directorate of staging a media spectacle to malign opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan. Speaking in Thrissur on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Mr. Ramakrishnan pointed to a notice pasted outside Mr. Vijayan's residence as an unfair tactic meant to make him look like an absconding accused. He questioned the agency's hurry in a matter that is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
KIIFB And Wine Sales
The LDF convener also challenged the state government over its decision to stop Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board projects without a clear plan for ongoing development works. He argued that if land acquisition issues arose in Kannur, the government should investigate specific irregularities instead of dropping a whole development program. He expressed worry that these changes could hand construction over to private corporate interests with toll collection. In a separate point, he called the Excise Minister's claim of being unaware of wine sales at a Meladoor bakery ridiculous, demanding to know who granted the licence outside the normal regulatory system.
Context
The Enforcement Directorate investigates financial crimes and money laundering matters across India under federal laws. Funding boards like the KIIFB are often used by states to finance large-scale public infrastructure projects outside regular budget limits. Liquor sales and excise duties are strictly controlled state-regulated subjects in India.
