Indian stock markets drop for sixth week as global worries grow
Reported by Rituparna Sen (Section Editor) · Livemint - Markets ·
The Indian stock market ended the week of September 14 to 18 on a weak note. This marks the sixth straight week of losses, which is the longest losing run seen since 2020. The holiday-shortened week caused the Sensex to drop by 0.65 percent to close at 74,294.96 points. Meanwhile, the Nifty fell by 0.22 percent to end at 23,346.40 points. Investor mood stayed careful due to several external pressures. Crude oil prices remained above 100 dollars a barrel because of tensions in the Middle East. Foreign institutional investors kept selling their shares. Markets also worried about higher interest rates across the world and money moving away from regular stocks to strong new public offerings, including the large NSE issue.
