Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the State government is pushing forward with its goal to build a developed and prosperous state, speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh on October 17, 2026, to mark two years of his government's third consecutive term. Mr. Saini stated that his administration wants every citizen to have equal access to opportunities, basic services, and development benefits regardless of their social background or region.

The Allegations

Targeting the opposition, the Chief Minister said that while Congress leaders claim they made Haryana a leading state during their time in power, the reality was that the state became number one in corruption, nepotism, fear, favouritism, and regional discrimination under their rule. He alleged that merit was ignored in government jobs, with political recommendations and money deciding employment, while scams and irregularities spread across sectors and development was limited to only one region.

Opposition Response

Responding to the government's anniversary, Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda hit back by stating that twelve years of BJP rule are marked by false promises, rising crime, high unemployment, mounting debt, and scams. Mr. Hooda claimed there are two lakh vacant posts in government departments and accused the BJP of breaking its promise to give 2,100 rupees to women by adding fifty conditions. He added that when Congress left office in 2014, Haryana led the country in per capita income, investment, employment generation, sportsperson welfare, and minimum support prices, but now ranks highest in unemployment, drug addiction, crime, and debt.

Context

Political battles between ruling parties and the opposition often intensify during milestone anniversaries, as both sides try to shape public opinion about past and present governance. These verbal clashes regularly focus on core economic and social metrics like employment rates, debt, and public service delivery to win voter support in the state.
