Heavy rain lashed four districts in Tamil Nadu, recording a combined total of 1,156.30 mm of rainfall across Salem, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri alone in the 24 hours that ended at 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Salem Operations

Salem district recorded 351.20 mm of rain, with Sankari seeing 97.3 mm and Edappadi receiving 75.4 mm. Salem Corporation workers cleared stagnant rainwater at the New Bus Stand using motors after rain poured from Saturday evening until midnight. Officials had desilted a nearby stream to ensure free water flow, allowing buses to park and pick up passengers normally on Sunday.

Rainfall Breakdown

Krishnagiri district recorded 499.10 mm of rain, led by 75.80 mm in Uthangarai and 55 mm near Pambar Dam. Dharmapuri recorded 306 mm, including 78 mm in Pennagaram and 71 mm in Palacode. Namakkal district also recorded 177.5 mm of rainfall, with Rasipuram registering 44 mm.

Context

Heavy monsoon rains in Tamil Nadu often lead to local water logging in low-lying areas and bus terminals, requiring swift civic intervention to keep transport services running smoothly. Municipal teams routinely monitor water bodies and clear streams to prevent prolonged flooding during heavy downpours.
