Hero MotoCorp has launched the new Xtreme 250R Carbon variant, bringing a major feature upgrade along with several new tech and hardware additions.
Features And Tech
The new bike gets ride-by-wire technology that enables four riding modes named Rain, Road, Sport and Track. Each mode comes with its own custom traction control system. The bike also adds a bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control, and a tire pressure monitoring system, known as TPMS. The older LCD instrument cluster is replaced by a 4.2-inch TFT screen taken from the Xpulse 210. The rear suspension now features Frequency Selective Damping, which uses a secondary valve to change damping based on road conditions. It stiffens up for fast bumps like road chatter and softens for slow movements like speed breakers.
Engine And Performance
The 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine remains mostly the same. It puts out 30 horsepower at 9,250rpm and 25.3Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Torque sees a small bump of 0.3Nm delivered 250rpm higher in the rev range compared to the older model. In tests against the KTM 250 Duke, the standard Xtreme 250R proved quicker. The KTM 250 Duke did 0 to 60 kph in 3.44 seconds and 0 to 100 kph in 8.50 seconds. The standard Xtreme 250R completed the same runs in 3.15 seconds and 8.22 seconds. Hero's claimed 0 to 60 kph time for the Carbon variant is the same as the standard bike.
Price And Options
The Xtreme 250R Carbon costs Rs 1.98 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi. This is a Rs 14,000 price increase over the standard model, which also saw an Rs 11,000 price hike. Even with this extra cost, it is cheaper than the KTM 250 Duke, which is priced at Rs 2.28 lakh. Buyers can choose from three colors: Carbon Red, Carbon Black, and Carbon White. The variant also features colored wheels and special graphics.
Context
Performance motorcycles often receive special editions with cosmetic changes and extra features to attract buyers looking for more value without a full platform redesign. Variants with advanced electronics like ride-by-wire and quickshifters are becoming more common in lower displacement segments as riders demand features once reserved for bigger bikes.
