Hyundai’s India‑specific Bayon SUV has started arriving at dealer yards before its scheduled launch on October 26. The first units were seen in a bright red finish that highlights the car’s sculpted panels, black cladding and silver bumper accents, giving it a robust look. Measuring about 4.2 metres long, the Bayon will sit between Hyundai’s Venue and Creta models in the domestic lineup. Bookings are already open with a reservation fee of Rs 11,000. The front end features slim H‑Edge LED daytime running lights that run along the bonnet’s edge, paired with vertical accents at the ends. A black strip bridges the two sides, widening the visual impression without cluttering the upper fascia. Below the strip, lower‑mounted main headlamps flank a broad grille. The bumper is heavily blackened with contrasting silver inserts, and two pronounced creases on the bonnet add definition. Side and rear‑quarter shots show angular wheel arches, sturdy cladding and geometric alloy wheels. Blacked‑out pillars contrast with the red body, while raised roof rails enhance the upright stance. At the rear, a thin black band stretches across the tailgate with lighting units at each end. The BAYON badge sits below the Hyundai logo, and the rear bumper includes a large dark panel with silver corner inserts, a roof spoiler, rear wiper, shark‑fin antenna and parking sensors. Inside, the cabin combines lighter lower panels with a darker dashboard. A digital instrument cluster and a dual 12.3‑inch curved panoramic display dominate the centre. Physical shortcut buttons for media, navigation and home sit below the infotainment screen, alongside a hazard switch and rotary knobs. The climate‑control area sits between two upright air vents and includes a sizeable rotary dial at its base, plus two USB‑C ports and a storage compartment. An automatic gear selector identifies this example as the IVT version, while the driver’s side shows steering‑mounted controls and a push‑button start. Hyundai equips the Bayon with a generative‑AI voice assistant that blends Perplexity and SoundHound AI, handling spoken requests in English. Over 500 offline commands work in six languages, including Hindi and Hinglish. The vehicle also features Hyundai’s NVIDIA‑powered Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), more than 70 Bluelink services and OTA updates for up to 19 controllers. Power comes from a 1.5‑litre MPi petrol engine delivering 115 PS and 144 Nm, paired with either a six‑speed manual or an IVT automatic transmission.

Context

The Bayon expands Hyundai’s compact SUV range in India, targeting buyers who want a slightly larger vehicle than the Venue but a lower price than the Creta, while offering advanced connectivity and AI features that are becoming common in newer Indian cars.
